American Journalism, the official publication of the American Journalism Historians Association, was founded in 1981. It was created to provide a publication venue for scholars doing research in journalism history. Since that first issue, the journal’s topical reach has expanded to embrace a much broader range of historical work on the media and mass communication.
From 1983 through 2012, American Journalism was published independently. In 2013, Taylor & Francis became the journal’s publisher. The journal is available online at Taylor & Francis.
Many institutional libraries around the world subscribe to Taylor & Francis and provide access, free of charge, to its journals through their websites to those those who belong to the institution. Past issues of American Journalism are available at EBSCO’s special collection of journals, Communication and Mass Media Complete, also widely available through institutional libraries.
